A new comer from Nokia 8 Megapixel snapper is on its way to capture lot of hearts, all set to be released in Second quarter of year, which is quite far-off ( so they are going to have a hard time maintaining the hype around it).

Seems to be the replica of N85 with the same OLED screen, what makes it different from N85 is the 8 Mpx camera (with the side stand , remember you saw that in N96 too)

Nokia should have experimented with the Kickstand to give it a unique look like SE w995 has done. Though nokia is pioneer with this concept..still..it would have been good to see something different.

At Nokia they claim that it’s the first phone of this class to carry a wide-angle lens onboard. As you already know, the N86 houses an 8 MP camera, and while its sample images from the press release look excellent.  It’s the first and only camera phone to offer variable aperture values and a 28mm wide angle lens.

The N86 is expected to come with the same set of applications, standard  suite and OVI connectivity. The Nokia N86 8MP runs on the Feature Pack 2 of the S60 Symbian user interface. It’s nothing new actually, but what you may notice about all new Nokia smartphones announced this week is that they have some newly customized interface graphics and it’s all about transition effects.

The only disappointment I see in N86 is the screen size, its camera seems to have bridged the gap of  a digicam and Mobile device, yet clearer picture can be obtained after the burn test of its camera.

The Nokia N86 software version 11.043 promises better imaging results especially in video recording, low light pictures are also improved. The same goes for the Browser, Share Online, and the Settings Wizard.

SW update is a small application that is used alongside the separate Download applications to bring updates and firmware upgrades to the Nokia N86 8MP. It’s one of those apps you need to manually check.

Doing so, I’ve just found there are two new updates located there and ready to be downloaded by all users. You can get these updates OTA (Over The Air) or make the most of the built-in Wi-Fi connection. The updater allows you to get hold of Ovi Maps 3.1 and Conversations 9.20. Nokia Maps 3.0 will be replaced by version 3.0.1 and the phone will offer better maps experience in landscape mode. This is a slight step-up in terms of functionality that was offered with Ovi Maps 3.0, including 3D buildings, improved traffic and pedestrian data, as well as enhanced performance. Conversations 9.20 is Nokia’s own social media networking tool that allows you commute with others in an Instant Messaging environment.

You can carry on a conversation, or reply to a message send earlier. Once installed, it sets itself up in the Contacts for easy use. The replacements go on: Downloads! will now be replaced by OVI Store. The OVI Store launcher will be preloaded and the actual client is available for download at OVI. Along with the firmware update Nokia announced the upcoming exhibition of the photographer David Bailey.

As you might have guessed, all the images will be taken AT NIGHT with the Nokia N86 8MP. The campaign called “Alive At Night” is part of the ongoing Nokia efforts to showcase the Nokia N86 8MP imaging prowess in the dark (even without a xenon flash). Point is how many of us agree to it??

It’s been 2 days since the Nokia N86 8MP started shipping.

Charlie loved the Nokia N85 and he says the Nokia N86 8MP which is a tweaked N85 with a superb 8MP camera has now become his favourite device.

He has posted a video and several photos taken by the Nokia N86 8MP. He says he will leave it to the readers to judge the quality but he says don’t be too harsh as he is not a pro-photographer either.

While he was there he found this cool thing hidden in the screenshots of the settings menu. The discovery is that the Kickstand on the Nokia N86 8MP is active, ie it triggers some application apart from the function of a kickstand. In this respect, it is unique from the Nokia N96 Kickstand which was just a stand without any trigger for applications.

With the kickstand on the Nokia N86 8MP, you can chose settings like for the slide handling. You can chose to open any application when the kickstand is opened or in use.

As you can see in these screenshots, you can set this kickstand to launch any number of handy applications, such as the video player, photo browser, or messaging. This could be awesome if you have it set to open the video player quickly, or for you guys in the U.K., the BBC iPlayer that’s sure to be available. I would likely have mine set to open Mobbler, so that I could quickly start streaming music when I flip that kickstand open.

GLOBAL – It’s only been a couple of months since the Nokia N86 8MP was unveiled, but already it’s bagged a prestigious industry award from TIPA (Technical Image Press Association). Picking up the Best Mobile Imaging Device in 2009, the N86 has instantly made a splash amongst what is viewed in photography as one of the most influential organisations.

This is great news for the N86 8MP. And of course, imaging is what the device is all about. With eight megapixels to play with, big crisp images are the order of the day. But it isn’t just about pixel count. The device also packs a wide angle Carl Zeiss Tessar lens, which enables users to shoot panoramic shots. Every snap can be Geotagged and it’s easy to upload them to online photo sharing sites such as Ovi or Flickr.

The awards, set up by TIPA member magazines, cover a wide range of photography related products. Editors from each magazine form the General Assembly which then decides which products are considered for voting. Innovation, cutting edge technology, design, ergonomics, ease-of-use, price and performance are all taken into consideration during the judging and voting process. Only one product in each category is chosen annually to carry the award badge.

Sure, this is a bit of drum beating, but we’re really pleased for the team behind the N86 8MP.

As you may have noticed, the properties of the image files say picture taken by the N86 8MP and not the N85/N85 8MP as it was shown in the earlier pictures taken by prototypes. The image quality has also been improved from previous prototypes. This is a good step and indication as we can now expect to see further improvements in the final release and also with further firmware updates.
